Antofagasta Region launches public voting to choose its most iconic tourist attractions and heritage sites

The residents of the nine municipalities of the Antofagasta Region can now choose the most representative places in their territories, thanks to the launch of the public voting process for the “Must-See Attractions of the Antofagasta Region” project.

The digital platform that will enable participation in this selection was presented at the Association of Municipalities of the Antofagasta Region (AMRA) during an event attended by representatives of the Regional Government, Sernatur and municipal tourism teams.

The project aims to reduce the lack of access to information about the cultural and tourism heritage of each municipality. To achieve this, a book—available in both print and digital formats—will be produced to showcase and promote the main local attractions, bringing this content closer to schools, community organisations, libraries, tourism offices and the general public.

The initiative is currently in its participatory stage, during which residents themselves will decide on the seven must-see attractions of each municipality and of the region as a whole. To vote, participants must enter their national ID number (RUT) on the designated platform. The voting process will remain open for two weeks.

The Mayor of Taltal and Director of AMRA, Mario Acuña, highlighted that this initiative will help identify the destinations that citizens consider most representative, strengthening local tourism and promoting awareness of the region’s heritage among children, young people and adults.

Meanwhile, Ángel González, Head of the Social and Human Development Division of the Regional Government, praised the collaborative work carried out with the municipalities and encouraged the community to participate actively in building a democratic selection of the region’s most important tourist attractions.

The initiative is funded by the Regional Government of Antofagasta through the National Regional Development Fund (FNDR), under the 2025 Culture 8% programme, with an investment approved by the Regional Council amounting to CLP 58,811,737.
